Meet Your Local Team

Joice Foo, Tutor

Joice’s architectural background provides a means of conceptualising a project creatively. “Kids have an enormous bank of wild interpretations and I like to encourage each individual to express this in their work, coding does exactly that and the look on their faces afterwards is priceless.” Each lesson is a blank page waiting for the magic to unfold! If you’re looking to future-proof your child, why not encourage your little one to try coding? I joined MAMA.codes because I want to inspire the next generation of young leaders.

Manish Singh, Tutor

A former entrepreneur and IT professional with over 18 years of working experience, I have always been interested in teaching. Being a part of the MAMA.codes team gives me an opportunity to combine my experience and skills in coding and computer science with my interest in teaching. Computer coding provides kids with an avenue to bring their imagination to life and sows the seeds for important life skills like problem-solving and analytical thinking, with MAMA.codes providing the tools and assistance they need.

Elena Hastings, Tutor

Apart from building my own travel website from scratch, I don’t particularly have any IT background (I’m at university studying Spanish!. However the simplicity of ScratchJr meant that I didn’t need to be a computer scientist to be able to teach young children how to begin to code and think logically. I joined MAMA.codes back in the Spring ’19 with the intention of moving from being employed to self – employed. Less than a year on and I can happily say that I am completely self-employed (just handed in my resignation letter to my part-time job) and I have whole-heartedly loved every moment. I’ve grown hugely thanks to the team. MAMA.codes has given me the confidence that I didn’t even know I had to stand in front of so many students and deliver a class that is both exciting and educational. MAMA.codes is great in that you can choose the number of hours you want to work. I started off as a TA, however, within weeks I made the leap to become a tutor. During the summer I even had the opportunity to gain experience as an events coordinator! I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of this wonderful movement and feel inspired by the number of strong women that I have met through my work.
