Coding Classes for Ages 8–13: Minecraft
Join us for a fun and engaging session where our expert tutors will keep your children engaged and learning while developing the essential 21st Century skills of coding, problem-solving and logical thinking.
Minecraft is more than just a game — it’s a world where children can learn to code, design, and problem-solve. Using Microsoft MakeCode, students bring their Minecraft worlds to life with code, turning play into powerful learning.
What is MakeCode?
MakeCode is Microsoft’s block-based coding platform that connects directly to Minecraft. Children use colourful coding blocks (similar to Scratch) to program events, build structures automatically, control characters, and design challenges. It’s an intuitive entry point into coding that bridges gameplay and real programming logic.
Through Minecraft coding, children learn computational thinking, logic, and problem-solving — while creating exciting projects like automated stairways, escape rooms, and interactive adventure games.
Progression Pathway
Our Minecraft pathway supports complete beginners as well as confident players, with progression that grows alongside your child’s skills and interests:
Intro to Minecraft (Optional):
For children (and parents/carers!) who are brand new to Minecraft. Learn the fundamentals of the game — movement, crafting, building, and navigation — and how coding connects to gameplay.
Minecraft MakeCode (Beginner & Intermediate):
Learn coding concepts like inputs, coordinate systems, loops, variables, and agent programming while designing creative Minecraft builds and adventure challenges.
Redstone Engineering (Advanced):
Move beyond MakeCode into Minecraft’s Redstone system — learning circuit design, logic gates, and engineering basics through projects like lights, hidden doors, and even TNT cannons.
Music with Minecraft (Creative Extension):
Use Redstone-powered Noteblocks to compose songs, create rhythms, and build your own musical instruments inside the game — blending coding, engineering, and music theory.
Not sure where to start? Your child’s tutor will recommend the best level in their first session.
