Joice has been teaching with MAMA.codes since its very beginning in 2017, bringing a unique blend of creativity, technical know-how and storytelling to every class. With a background in architecture, she has a natural talent for helping children bring their ideas to life on screen — turning imagination into characters, animations, and interactive projects.
Alongside coding, Joice also teaches languages, including Mandarin, weaving together different ways of “talking” — whether with machines or with people around the world.
“Part of the joy in learning to code is to see your imagination materialise right before your eyes and I love that I can guide the children this way.”
Children love Joice’s sessions for the fun and curiosity they spark, from exploring Scratch’s Pen tool to sharing their own brilliant fun facts about the projects they’re working on.
“The Pen tool in Scratch is always a hit with the children, it’s mesmerising watching it come alive on the screen; a bit like when the characters in Toy Story become animated and gets up to all kinds of mischief, except you’re (somewhat) in control of how the Pen tool is behaving. It’s incredibly therapeutic.”
Outside of teaching, you’ll often find Joice on long walks with the family dog or immersed in yoga. For Joice, coding is about more than computers — it’s about communication, creativity, and giving children the skills to thrive in the future.
