Tech Futures Launchpad

We are proud to be able to offer a number of sponsored spaces on our coding sessions for 8–13 year olds, thanks to our partners through our Tech Futures Launchpad program.

MAMA.codes’ Tech Futures Launchpad is an initiative providing free coding classes to children who might not otherwise be able to access them. The programme launched in February 2024 with the support of Nationwide Building Society. Tech Futures Launchpad aims to empower under-represented young people to thrive in the digital age, through an engaging offer that builds technical skills, career aspiration and confidence.

In its first year, the program reached 150 low-income or cared-for students, fostering a more inclusive and diverse future in STEM. The curriculum used Scratch and Minecraft Education, and covered coding skills, concepts, online safety, and potential STEM careers.

We’re really proud that an independent evaluation of the programme has found:

  • 100% of students reported being interested in STEM and 96% of students said they wanted to find out more about STEM careers
  • Students were 4.25 times more likely to report feeling competent in ICT after the course than before it
  • 87% of the students agreed or strongly agreed they that knew how to stay safe online at the end of the programme

In February 2025, MAMA.codes reached the finals of the Institute of Children’s Activity Providers (ICAP’s) Awards in the Community Beacon category. The award celebrates outstanding achievement in inclusivity and community engagement and we’re excited to find out the results in March!

It’s been going really, really well. He’s enjoying coming here. I’m happy that he’s learning a new skill, and I’m hoping that there’s future opportunities for him
